Myth Blaster: Eagle Helicopter

The following was sent in by Joan Bartelson concerning photographs of a U.S. military helicopter painted like an eagle. …

Check out what some of our boys overseas did to their helicopter. Some Afghan is probably freaking out right about now. The story is: this very special Mi-24 helicopter is presently flying in Afghanistan, where it is no doubt causing quite a stir. God Bless the U.S.A.

Myth Blaster Verdict:
Pictures are real, story is hoax.
The helicopter is a Mi-24 Hind, which is Russian made and this particular aircraft is part or was part of the Hungarian Air Force that was probably painted by its crew members. The helicopter was not used for military operations, however, and carried no ammunition, although you can see cannons and missile pads are present (with no missiles) because it was used for air shows and other exhibitions.
Snopes says “the helicopter has since been decommissioned and no longer exists.”
