Romney File: Dossier, Policy, and Issues

Introduction to Romney File series …
An Obama File exists that is incredibly full of information about the incumbent President of the United States – a growing list of unfulfilled campaign promises, clear actions and policies demonstrating his endeavor to “change” America by doing away with constitutional law and replacing it with the socialist-Marxist principles found in the platform of the manifestos of the lines of political entity and the myriad of scandals and unethical behavior on the part of his administration that have occurred since 2008.

During the primaries, I focused upon the choice between conservative-libertarian candidates and did not support Mitt Romney. It was not because of his character, which the following information clearly demonstrates that Mr. Romney has good character and close family relationship, as well as dedication to the church of his faith, Mormon. No, he does not have more than one wife. That was a Mormon custom that was optional, not mandatory; and it was done away with when Utah applied to be a state of the Union.
But I digress …
This dossier is not about Barack H. Obama, it is about the candidate running against him, and the only qualms I have about Mitt Romney is that he has not been consistent in his policies or his endeavors and not solid when it comes to critical issues.
Romney must correct that flaw and now be solid, both in campaigning and, if elected, become a hallmark of true reformation of our government returning to a constitutional republic with a government that is limited to the powers prescribed in the Constitution of the United States.
This will be quite the task and will require congressional support. Hopefully, congressional members, conservatives, will actually perform those required tasks and work with the executive branch to make it so.
This introductory to the Romney Fileis a dossier written in simple bullet form; the object being getting the gist of facts. Included will be a list of subject materials and where he stands with them, going through the alphabet starting with abortion – gleaned from a reliable source for all candidates and elected officials information file as in public records at the On The Issues website. I hope this becomes a good reference to fellow citizens who desire to be responsible voters, and who want to start getting involved with what is going on in government, protecting OUR Constitution of the United States and its amendments and the for the general welfare of the People of the United States, as well as protecting their rights and liberties and returning some of them back to – We the People.
  • Born March 12th, 1947; son of Lenore and George Romney whose father served as Governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969.
  • Raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Attended Stanford University, Brigham Young University, and Harvard University as a Baker Scholar.
  • Went to Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School at same time, passed Michigan bar, but never worked as an attorney.
  • A venture-capitalist, first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. The company is called Staples that now has over 2,000 stores and employs 90,000 people.
  • Management Consultant for Bain Capital working with companies like Domino’s, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.
  • Worked as campaign worker for his father’s gubernatorial campaign for one year.
  • Intern for Governor’s office for 8 years.
  • Mormon missionary in Paris for 30 months, after one year at Stanford University.
  • Bishop and Stake President of his church for 10 years.
  • President of the Olympics for 3 years, accepting no salary.
  • Massachusetts Governor for 4 years, accepting no salary. He promoted a series of spending cuts and increases in state fees in order to reduce a $1.5 billion deficit. The gist of complaints of Romney’s term as governor was signing into law the Massachusetts health care reform legislation that provided almost universal health insurance, as well as individual mandates that many consider just another form of ObamaCare. Despite this, Romney was against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) claiming it was an unconscionable abuse of power. In four years, the health care law achieved its primary goal of expanding coverage – 98% of state residents in 2010 had coverage. Approximately two-thirds of residents received coverage through employers and one-sixth from Medicare or public programs.
  • Romney proposed a $20 billion “workout not a bailout” to solve problems of the US auto industry. It was coined by the media as “unrealistic” and “pandering”. The political left and media did not have qualms about pandering to unions of the auto industry in the historical bailout that was paid from tax dollars or funds the government didn’t have.
  • Ran as Republican nominee in 2008 presidential election and lost to John McCain.
  • Received five honorary doctorates, one in Business from the University of Utah in 1999, Law doctorate from Bentley College in 2002, Public Administration from Suffolk University Law School in 2004, Public Service from Hillsdale College in 2007, and Humanities from Liberty University in 2012.
  • As a youth he committed some pranks that included sliding down golf courses on large ice cubes, dressing as a police officer and tapping on car windows of teenage friends, and staging an elaborate formal dinner on the median of a busy street. The golf course prank got Romney and his girl friend, Ann Davies, arrested/detained by local police. Those prank incidents have been used as negative campaign rhetoric against Romney by the Democrat Party and accompanying media. You decide whether or not it makes Romney a criminal, or just boisterous in youth with inventive pranks.
Unlike his political opponent for national election 2012, Mitt Romney has an un-doctored birth certificate and complete college transcripts, He has no record nor does he presently associate with shady characters who are criminals, former terrorist group members, socialist or communist organizations. He knows who his father is, who didn’t abandon him, nor his mother. He attends a church that does not preach racial hatred or condemns his own country with profanity and maliciousness.

Analysis: Mitt Romney has good character, as stated previously; but his inconsistent record of policy-ideology issues remains a problem and worries many voters; yet they know Obama cannot be reelected if America is to remain strong and not bankrupt; as well as remain a free republic For the People
The plus for Romney is that he was a successful businessman, and although he studied law, probably to enhance his other educational endeavors, majoring in business; he has the background as to what leads to success when it comes to improving our economy.
On issues like taxes and gun control, he remains indecisive and seemingly out of touch.
He is all for reducing taxes in order to boost the economy and the natural order of the economic cycle; but refuses the flat tax system or the FairTax system as an alternative. This means that he agrees that the IRS should remain a powerful agency that undermines the rights and liberties of the People. Romney claims that the FairTax would hurt the middle class. I have searched for the basis for his belief in this, but found none; yet a book covered the subject that was for FairTax quite thoroughly. The only problem with FairTax that I see is the enormous change in government that would have to take place in order to enforce it. One being the repeal of the 16th Amendment, which is the amendment that sanctions government to take whatever part of your hard earned money as they see fit.
Therefore, the solution is that if the income tax system must remain, it must be a low tax percentage that is a permanent rate that can only be changed by two-thirds majority vote in Congress and ratification by the majority of states. In addition, this system would require or disallow the “refund” system, which means little or not paperwork. This will save taxpayers and government in complicated and costly paperwork.
Romney does mention that he wants to lower higher income taxes from 35% to 25%, but this is just a band-aid for what really ails the tax system. It will help, but not solve the problem over a long-term scenario or deal with the intrusive and unconstitutional agency called the IRS.
Whether flat tax or not, income tax is not ethical, efficient, and intrudes upon the American people. However, a consumption tax would be paid when a citizen purchases something, which means it is not intrusive and the tax flow to the government treasury will be based upon the economy and government will be forced to re-budget like the rest of us do when hard times occur. It is a more transparent system as well.
When we receive our paychecks for our labor, we should be getting the “gross” amount, minus Medicare and Social Security (FICA), because that is not a tax, but paying into a retirement and old age medical program for the benefits of those who are contributing.
But once again, a flat income tax with no paperwork, no deductions, is far better than what is in place at the moment.
The other weaknesses concern issues like Gun Control and immigration.
In his campaign for President of the United States he is going to have to be clear and decisive on issues, and keep to the issues. We the People already KNOW what Obama has screwed up — what we want to know is HOW he intends to fix it, and this time, we want details when it comes to rhetoric about “change”.
