Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Secretary of State who resigned in the midst of a serious scandal in Benghazi that caused, along with the President, the death and injury of Americans serving there is now the recipient of National Constitution Center 2013 Liberty Medal. A slap in the face for those who have suffered from her corrupt career life in politics and the law office she was part of early in her husband’s career, but people like Nancy Pelosi are thrilled. It makes about as much sense as Al Gore and Barack Obama receiving a Nobel Prize.
The list of scandals of State Department:
- It hired law-enforcement agents with criminal or checkered backgrounds under a flawed vetting process. As a result, many of the roughly 2,000 agents in the agency’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security are permitted to play only limited roles in agency efforts to police bad conduct and prosecute wrongdoers.
- US Ambassador to Belgium Howard Gutman, a big Democratic donor, was accused of soliciting prostitutes, including minors, but the State Department agent examining the claims was called off the investigation even after determining Gutman routinely ditched his security detail.
- Security officer Chuck Lisenbee, stationed in Beirut, Lebanon, allegedly sexually assaulted local guards. The internal probe into the charges lasted three days.
- Huma Abedin, wife of mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner and one of Clinton’s closest aides, is being investigated for how she got a six-figure deal to work as a private consultant while still employed by the State Department.
- After terrorists killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, at the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012, then-US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice described the assault as stemming from a “spontaneous protest” rather than calling what it was — a planned terrorist attack. The assault came after repeated indications that compound security needed to be increased.
H. Clinton will receive medal on September 10th, 2013 in a ceremony at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO of the center stated:
The Liberty Medal recognizes individuals who have furthered the ideals of freedom, democracy, and equality, often against great odds. Hillary Clinton has devoted her life to expanding opportunities for ‘We the People’ not just in this country but around the globe.
They also proclaimed that she is honored for her “bipartisan” efforts as first lady in support of affordable health care and her work as U.S. Senator from New York to secure more than $20 billion after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks for the city and its first responders.
Former presidents, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush were jointly awarded the Liberty Medal in 2006 for their efforts of helping victims of Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in southeast Asia. Both former presidents served terms as chairmen of the National Constitution Center.
The National Constitution Center opened in 2003 near Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell that claims dedication to increasing public understanding of the Constitution through its museum exhibits, public lectures and debates, and educational outreach and research.
Apparently it has been overlooked that the NCC does not have a clue about the Constitution or the system of government the founders established because they use the word and identify our intended system as a “democracy” – when, in fact, it is [supposed to be] a constitutional republic. The word “democracy” does not appear in the US Constitution or its amendments or the Declaration of Independence. The Federalist Papers mentions democracy only in the sense that it should not be adopted because history shows that democracy ends up destroying itself eventually being run by the “mob” and freedom/liberties become suppressed for a part of the population that is not part of the mob. John Adams was clear on this subject in his writings and speeches. He stated …
Democracy … while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide.
Democrats are forming [according to Pelosi] behind Hillary for presidential candidate in 2016, and according to Politico, Nancy Pelosi, the “let’s pass a bill and then read it” lady, says that H.R. Clinton would win in 2016. Pelosi is not only backing the idea that Hillary will run, but urging her to do so. She lost the Democrat primary elections to BH Obama and won the office of Secretary of State. Corporate mainstream media are salivating in anticipation over the idea that Hillary will run in 2016. Forbes states that women must dare to compete in politics and cite Hillary’s statement that women are due to be president. It all falls on the idea that it is not the character and experience that counts but gender and race – especially if a Democrat.
As Hillary infamously stated in the Benghazi congressional hearing … “What difference does it make?”
And, as a side note …
Members in the US Senate and House, about 20% of them, are collecting both a pension and salaries of $174,000 in 2012. On the list are newly elected freshmen.
It is not just Democrats that are doing this [although the count is 2-1], but so-called Republican-Conservatives [who claim support of the Tea Party] are “double-dipping”. In 1996, Congress passed a bill that does not allow disabled veterans to collect disability unless it is deducted from retirement funds – although the two are entirely separate funds. Congress passed bills that punished those collecting social security if they make over a given amount before a given age. In addition to that money, state government pensions are also added to their annual income. Meanwhile, the Obama administration is interested in managing citizens’ 401(k) accounts and is about to oversee their health care issues as well.
The National Journal:
The practice of piling a pension atop a paycheck is legal, if unsavory to many. Taxpayer groups and some conservatives have condemned the practice as “double-dipping”; they say elected officials shouldn’t simultaneously draw a public pension while cashing a government paycheck, because taxpayers ultimately foot at least part of the bill for both. “You’re paying them twice,” says Steve Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense. Fixed pensions are a fading memory for most American workers, who are still smarting from losses to their 401(k)s during the credit crisis—even if those accounts have since recovered. The fact that federal lawmakers can draw large retirement payments atop generous taxpayer-funded salaries only helps fuel the widespread sense that the ruling class in Washington puts its own interests first.
As Maggie’s Notebook noted:
Prior to 1984, members of Congress did not pay into Social Security, were not eligible for SS benefits and were covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). Beginning in January 1984, all members began contributing to Social Security and fell under a new retirement system, the Federal Employees’ Retirement System Act of 1986.
CRS Report for Congress 2011:
As of October 1, 2011, 495 retired Members of Congress were receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service. Of this number, 280 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $70,620. A total of 215 Members had retired with service under both CSRS and FERS or with service under FERS only. Their average annual pension was $39,576 in 2011.
Unfortunately, this practice is “legal” – because Congress made it so. Yet, these practices are illegal to everyone else. How does that work?
Elected public officials are NOT employees. They are to receive a salary according to the articles of the Constitution, but should not receive retirement benefits just because they remain in Congress – a better word would be “languish” in Congress. Not many of them earn their salaries, and instead of performing their duties they use the system for their benefit, keep the status quo despite low approval ratings by We the People, who keep these parasites and political prostitutes in office term after term. We have heard moves to make congressional seats limited, like was done for the office of the President of the United States; but nothing was done. Just like nothing has been done about the income tax system or its gestapo-like agency called the IRS.
